About Me

Welcome to Coming Home With Katie, the blog about traveling the world and the lasting impressions it’s given on a young DePaul University student.

My name is Katie Kostelic, I’m a 20-year-old college student living in Chicago. Welcome to my post travel blog! The purposes behind this blog are my two biggest passions, traveling and writing. I recently studied abroad with Semester at Sea and sailed to Asia, Africa, and Europe, with week-long stops in ports along with independent travel. With the help of my professors on the ship and my travels in port, I learned first-hand about multiple issues such as the environment, human rights violations, and government-citizen relationships. The world became my classroom, and I tried to take in as much as possible in my few months across the world.

Why did I create a blog about traveling, even though my travels are over?

  • Even though I’m back in the United States, I still have fond memories of my travels and learned about so much in my classes along the way, I still make all of those life lessons and lectures a part of my daily life.
  • Since these posts will be weekly, I will be reading the news constantly about each place I went to; this is important for me that I keep up with not only memories from my travels but how some of the countries might have changed since I was there. Though I am already informed about some issues, having a blog to keep up with will always have me up to date with the latest news.

Not only will this blog bring out my knowledge and stories about my travels, but I will also bring professionals, international students, professors and more to Come Home with Katie.

Why would I want to bring other people to the blog?

  • Even though I have been to all of the places I will be touching on, I am in no way an expert on any subject nor am I more experienced in a country than someone who calls it home.
  • International students have a different view of not only American university life and values, but also can bring first-hand stories about issues going on in their home countries, wherever they may be.
  • Professors can give more insight from an academic perspective, meaning that they are trained in a field that relates to the country or issue specifically.
  • Other professionals, whether it’s doctors, government workers, etc. deal with issues like these for a profession, meaning they are extremely educated on the subject.

Hopefully that gives more information about Coming Home With Katie. I hope you enjoy reading about topics of the world through multiple lenses.
